I saw this group perform live, and the hair on my arms stood up! They are a 10 out of 10. They're young, charismatic, and unbelievably talented. canadian tenors

I wish they had come out with a Christmas CD!

This review is from: Canadian Tenors (Audio CD)
I bought several copies of this CD as gifts for family and friends. The wonderful blend of tenor voices makes for an extremely enjoyable listening experience. Here are some of the best quotes I've come across:
"Lords of the Sing"
"A voice like warm chocolate" (on Remigio Pereira)
"An angelic voice" (on Fraser Walters) canadian tenors

Having attended several live performances, I can say that these young men know how to move an audience - from tears to laughter. Their beautiful voices, unique interpretation of songs, and down-to-earth, boy-next-door personalities (not to mention good looks!) make them the "Pride of Canada".

This review is from: Canadian Tenors (Audio CD) canadian tenors
I had the privilege of seeing this amazing group sing live at the Royal Theatre on December 21st in Victoria. Each voice is distinct and yet they come together in a beautiful melodic blend that gave me goosebumps. These men are amazing. Not only can they sing in various languages and genres, but they also compose, play instruments and know how to entertain a crowd with good humour. It was a real pleasure to see them perform and I feel they are just as good as Il Divo. I wish them every success as they launch their first CD. This is only the beginning and I'm sure they will have a long and fulfilling career together.canadian tenors

Welcome to World Book Night
The inaugural World Book Night will take place on Saturday, 5 March 2011, two days after World Book Day.
With the full support of the Publishers Association, the Booksellers Association, the Independent Publishers Guild, the Reading Agency with libraries, World Book Day and the BBC, one million books will be given away by an army of passionate readers to members of the public across the UK and Ireland – and you could be one of them!

The Largest Book Give-Away Ever Attempted!
Posted on December 1, 2010 by admin
20,000 passionate book lovers will give away 1,000,000 books on the inaugural World Book Night
The countdown begins. World Book Night will take place on Saturday 5 March 2011 and will be broadcast in partnership with BBC Two. This dynamic and unprecedented industry-wide initiative to celebrate adult books and reading will see one million free books given away on World Book Night by 20,000 passionate readers to other members of the public across the UK and Ireland. World Book Night will take place two days after World Book Day, the established nationwide reading campaign.

A growing list of high-profile figures from publishing, media and the arts are lending their support to this ambitious initiative by becoming Patrons of World Book Night including Damon Albarn, Dave Eggers, Colin Firth, David Gilmour, Antony Gormley, Seamus Heaney, Damien Hirst, Nigella Lawson, Mary Portas, J.K. Rowling and Tilda Swinton.

Jamie Byng, Chairman, World Book Night says:

"World Book Night is a unique collaboration between publishers, booksellers, libraries, writers and individual members of the public and one that I think is going to have an enormously positive impact on books and reading. There are few things more meaningful than the personal recommendation and having one million books given to one million different people on one night in this way is both unprecedented and hugely exciting."

worldbooknight.org
Antony Gormley, Patron, World Book Night says:

"Hooray for World Book Night, a truly wonderful celebration of reading, writing, and sharing! When the joy of giving and receiving is added to the fruit of the imagination, something big, lovely and generous can happen: for a book allows us to hold the experience of another in our hands and absorb it in our minds. And this brilliant idea enables this to happen in ever widening and deepening circles of considered and connected life."

worldbooknight.org  world book night
From today, 2 December 2010, members of the public are invited to apply to be one of the 20,000 givers of 48 copies of their favourite book chosen from a carefully selected list of 25 titles. Most givers are expected to be passionate readers who will take pleasure in recommending a book they love to other readers. However, World Book Night will also encourage givers to pass the books on to others who either may be reluctant readers or who are part of communities with less access to books, bookshops and libraries. 960,000 books will be distributed by givers and a further 40,000 will be distributed by WBN to people who might not otherwise be able to participate.

An independent editorial committee composed of a broad mix of booksellers, librarians, authors, broadcasters and other individuals carefully selected the 25 titles to be given away to the public on World Book Night. Prior to this, the entire book trade was canvassed for recommendations and hundreds of lists were received. The final selection offers a wide array of outstanding books encompassing all types of fiction be it historical, literary, crime and commercial as well as poetry, memoir and young adult. Whether a huge bestseller, a prize-winning debut, a lesser known gem or an undisputed classic, it was felt that every book needed to be an accessible work of enduring quality that people would feel passionate about sharing with others.

Alan Yentob Creative Director, BBC and member of the World Book Night editorial committee says:

worldbooknight.org
"BBC Two will host World Book Night from its inception on December 2 through to the event itself on 5 March. Whether as a giver, recipient or viewer, we hope that BBC audiences will be inspired to get involved with this groundbreaking project."

Author John le Carré says: world book night

"No writer can ask more than this: that his book should be handed in thousands to people who might otherwise never get to read it, and who will in turn hand it to thousands more. That his book should also pass from one generation to another as a story to challenge and excite each reader in his time -that is beyond his most ambitious dreams."

Author Margaret Atwood adds:  world book night

"When Jamie Byng told me about World Book Night, I was amazed not only by its magnitude but by its simplicity. The love of writing, the love of reading – these are huge gifts. To be able give someone else a book you treasure widens the gift circle. I was thrilled to be asked to support World Book Night, and doubly thrilled that The Blind Assassin was chosen to help launch it. Long may its voyage be!"

worldbooknight.org world book night
The World Book Night website www.worldbooknight.org will serve as the primary means through which members of the public can apply to be a giver. People will be asked to say in up to 100 words why they want to give away a book chosen from the list and the sort of people they would like to give it to. Information about World Book Night will also be available via libraries and bookshops across the UK and Ireland. The closing date for entries is 4 January 2011.

The 20,000 givers and members of the public will be invited to take part in events, parties and celebrations on World Book Night across the UK and Ireland, with many libraries and bookshops extending their opening times. These events are being organized with the generous support of the Booksellers Association, the Publishers Association, Independent Publishers Guild, the Reading Agency with libraries, charities and others.

Secret Millionaire Changed My Life: Tony Banks (49 mins) [S] 9PM Thursday 02 Dec 2010 Channel 4
Ex-Para and Falklands veteran Tony Banks returns to the tough streets of Liverpool to see how the people he first met there are getting on and how they benefited from the money he donated. More Series 7 Episode 6 Secret Millionaire Changed My Life: Tony Banks

TONY Banks was looking to spread a little happiness – and tens of thousands of pounds – after making an undercover arrival in Anfield.

And the determined, Dundee-based 47-year-old, who made his £50m fortune running care homes for the elderly in Scotland, succeeded in his magnanimous mission.

The results of his big-hearted actions, which benefited individuals and organisations, to the total tune of more than £130,000, across Liverpool and Sefton – including Aintree, Old Roan, Waterloo and Tuebrook – will be seen tonight on Channel 4.

"When I first went to Anfield my initial reaction was that it was like Beirut," recalls Tony, a former member of Parachute Regiment 2 Para, who saw active service in the Falklands.

tony banks secret millionaire
"It's an area that has been promised regeneration for years and years but it's just not happened. My memories of Anfield are that no one came out after dark – and the sound of sirens.

"But next to boarded-up houses there are houses with hanging baskets, indicating the pride that the residents have in their homes."

Tony's cover story saw him introducing himself to people as a man who had been made redundant and asked by Channel 4 to present a documentary called Human Britain.

The lucky, but deserving recipients, of Tony's money included Dave Kelly's Daisy UK organisation, which is based in Tuebrook and aims to break down the barriers of disability discrimination through awareness in sport and other leisure activities.

tony banks secret millionaire
Dave, 47, who has been blind for 14 years, received a double surprise from Tony, who says: "Dave is a lovely and inspirational guy who could talk for England, but apparently I'm the first person who's managed to make him speechless twice!

"He had recently got married to Eva but, because he's so work-orientated and never takes a break, they hadn't been on honeymoon, so I presented them with £3,000 to go on holiday.

"Then I went back three weeks later and gave him the second lot of money."

tony banks secret millionaire

Tony handed over £20,000, with £50,000 to be donated over the next two years – together with practical, hands-on support from his own management team – so Dave can expand and develop Daisy UK.

Dave says: "I normally pick up on everything but I didn't have a clue about Tony. When he came down I just thought he was a really nice bloke; he got involved in everything, the kids loved him and we all had a great time.

"I've been told that my response, when he came clean, was the best one they've ever had on the programme – I can't remember but I must have kissed him!

"It's going to be so funny – and possibly embarrassing – when it's on TV (we're going to put it on a big screen at the Greenbank Sports Academy in Sefton Park).

"The second time he came to see me I thought 'lightning doesn't strike twice'. But it did and, again, I was gobsmacked. All you can say is 'thank you'. This money and practical help can develop and market us and will hopefully lead to many, many more young people getting involved with Daisy UK – we want to set up apprenticeship and volunteer schemes."

tony banks secret millionaire
And that holiday money? "We haven't spent it yet but it's been ring-fenced, because Tony said he knew I'd want to spend it on Daisy UK. Eva's looking at places we can fly to, but I'm in no hurry because I don't like flying!"

Tony also met and bonded with fellow former serviceman Lee Sanger, 29, who fought in Iraq and was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Lee, who lives with four other ex-servicemen in a pioneering social housing project in Waterloo called Property Resettlement Services, received £3,000 for flying lessons (an interest he shares with Tony) – and a £30,000 cheque for the chairty of his choice.

He reveals: "I told him I would give it to Combat Stress (a charity which specialises in the care of British veterans who have been profoundly traumatised by harrowing experiences during their career in the services) – and he replied 'I knew you would say that'.

"I came back from Iraq in 2003 and, it sounds daft now, but I tried to kill myself in 2004. I was put in a psychiatric hospital and then later diagnosed – it was about a year after I'd come back."

Of the new friend he made in the strangest of circumstances, he says: "Tony is a fantastic bloke – and he would be if he wasn't a millionaire. He's just a genuine and down-to-earth person."

tony banks secret millionaire
And there's more – much more: Tony was also mightily-impressed by the work of Old Roan-based Sefton Helping Hand Services, a charity which aims to help elderly and vulnerable people live independently and with an improved quality of life.

Tony funded a major makeover of an elderly lady's garden in Aintree – "It was more of a jungle than a garden" – which cost between £4,000 and £5,000, and gave £20,000 to the organisation.

tony banks secret millionaire
Its general manager, Brenda Dodd, was as convinced of Tony's cover story as everybody else, saying: "He was absolutely fabulous – and we had no idea at all.

"In this climate, we are always looking for more money to help us sustain and enhance our practical services – and, hopefully, this programme will also help bring us more volunteers and trustees."

Finally, the man with the millions says: "I will definitely be returning to Liverpool; I met some lovely people – really lovely, good people.

"It was a great feeling to be able to do something which helped others."

The Secret Millionaire, tonight, 9pm, on Channel 4.

tony banks secret millionaire
have just recently watch the Tony Banks episode of Secret Millionaire and in answer to some comments of donated money not being in Anfield....it doesnt matter. All that counts is that he was generous enough to donate to those he did and also remember that these organisations are probably helping people / kids etc from MANY areas of Liverpool. Personally i found the footage of Anfield to be worse than i remembered. I grew up in Toxteth and used to be one of the very busy firefighters you saw in the footage. Whilst i agree that Anfield as a whole isn't like that, it was one of the worst for attacks on fire crews. There were times when we were barricaded in to streets then attacked! When i left the fire service it was a problem on the increase and in a lot of Merseyside's areas....Kirkby, Toxteth, Norris Green, Speke, Halewood, Garston, Old Swan, Birkenhead etc It's also a growing nationwide problem, not just confined to areas of Liverpool. Toxteth in the 80's was a very poor area and the kids had nothing to do, we certainly didn't attack the emergency services like they do nowadays. There are no excuses for these people and i've seen the parents of these youths stood by watching as we were attacked on occasions!! This was one of the reasons my family and I left the UK for a better life abroad. There are sadly a lot of very nice, decent, law abiding people who are stuck living in these areas, my family included, who cannot leave for a better life somewhere else.

Kevin Green's Secret MIllionaire episode was truely amazing ... emotional and heartwarming .... a genuine nice guy. The support offered at Little Bridge House was inspirational to watch. Let's all get off our sofas and do a little bit more to help!!!

the last christmas movie

the last christmas movie
What was the name of the last Christmas movie you watched?

the last christmas movie Pictures

The the last christmas movie movie rights to the graphic novel The Last Christmas have been picked up by Hollywood Gang Prods. who are hoping to bring the twisted Image Comics holiday tale to the big screen.

No talent is attached to the project just yet, but Variety reports that Hollywood Gang's Craig J. Flores will executive produce the last christmas movie.

Penned by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan, The Last Christmas tells what happens at the North Pole while the rest of human civilization is ravaged in a nuclear holocaust. As the entire planet plummets into chaos, a mob of road warriors break into Santa's Workshop and kill the elves and Mrs. Claus. Suicidal, Santa tries to hang himself on his Christmas lights, but he cannot die as long as there is at least one child on Earth who still believes in him.

As it turns out, one young Santa-believing boy and his hot mom are living in what's left of San Francisco, fighting off zombies and gangs, and trying to keep Christmas alive. Santa sets out to pay them a visit, not with the intention of spreading Christmas cheer, but to kill the boy and put an end to their misery. However, the grizzled St. Nick has a change of heart and the trio team up to save the world... the last christmas movie and the holiday.

the last christmas movie A Christmas Story

That movie is awesome no matter what time of year it is, but the closer it gets to Christmas the more often I find myself throwing that movie into the player... and since it just recently got released in Blu-ray, had to replace the DVD in my movie collection this past week.

I can't remember the name but it was an ABC family movie staring Tom Arnold. The ghost of Christmas past wants to stay in the past so he runs away and leaves Tom stuck in the past. The ghost of Christmas present tries to help him hunt down past. It was an ok movie.

grammy nominations

grammy nominations

You may have watched the "Grammy Nominations Concert Live!" on CBS, but here's what you didn't see after the show at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, where numerous stars spoke to the press about their nominations.

Eminem, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga Lead Grammy Nominations

1. grammy nominations With seven Grammy nominations this year, Bruno Mars didn't hesitate to pat himself on the back in the press room following the announcement show. On several occasions, the artist made reporters ask him several times how it felt to be nominated in so many categories. Each time, he would smile and brush his shoulder with smug satisfaction. Jokes aside, Bruno Mars isn't taking the honors for granted. "It's a little surreal," he said with sincerity. "We're thankful." On working with Cee Lo Green on the Grammy-nominated track "F**k You," Mars recalled the soul singer's passion in the studio. "He just sang the shit out of it, basically. Man, that guy deserves that one." Who would Mars like to collaborate with in the future? Alicia Keys, Prince and Kings of Leon.

2. Four years ago, Paramore singer Hayley Williams never would've pictured herself being featured on a hip-hop song. (She's featured on B.o.B.'s "Airplanes, Part II," nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals). "I love hip-hop, but I never would've imagined it," she said. "But you can never say never." And what is Williams' favorite song of 2010? "Just the Way You Are," by Bruno Mars. Could a possible collaboration be in the works?

3. R&B  grammy nominations singer Monica said she hasn't been nominated for a Grammy Award since 1999. So being nominated this year for Best R&B Album for her latest set, "Still Standing," was a bit of a shocker. "I was not expecting anything. I have not been a part of the Grammys, as far as being nominated, since 1999," she said. "So at 16 years old, I didn't understand what it means. Now at 30, I'm in shock that I'm considered being nominated."

2010 Grammys Central

4. Rapper B.o.B. may have five Grammy nods under his belt, but what was the highlight for him in 2010? "Probably performing for Barack Obama at the National Gen44 Summit, and opening up for Jay-Z and Eminem at stadiums," he said. And he couldn't forget to mention the release of his debut album, "B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray." "It was something way past due, so I'm glad it happened," the rapper said.

5. Looking dapper in a shiny gray suit, a white v-neck and a diamond-covered cross necklace, Cee Lo Green, nominated for four Grammys, including Record of the Year for "F**k You," said he'll likely tour behind new album "The Lady Killer" in 2011. The first stop will be Australia. Cee Lo also revealed that he'd be collaborating with Danger Mouse on the third Gnarls Barkely album in the coming year. He admitted that he never expected "F**k You" to become such a hit, let alone a song that would receive a Grammy nod. ""wasn't meant to be a radio song, initially," he said. "It really took on a life of its own."

6. grammy nominations TV viewers probably didn't notice that Miranda Lambert's dress was covered with tiny mirrors, which blinded many of the press room folks when the obnoxiously bright lights reflected them. Aside from that, Lambert, whose "The House that Built Me" is nominated for Song of the Year, said that she emotionally lost it the first time she heard the tune. "I started bawling," she said. "It takes a lot to get me to a crying point when I listen to music."

7. If Cee Lo Green performs "F**k You" at this year's Grammy Awards show, how will it be handled? "When it comes to broadcast television, there are rules and regulations," Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow said. "It really has nothing to do with the Academy. It's mandated by the government. We'll deal with that the way we have to. But we believe in free speech and First Amendment rights. We support the rights of artists who create and speak their minds. We'll deal with it so that we're in the law, but also within the framework of the music and presenting the essence of what was really an amazing song."

8. grammy nominations 2010 What is LL Cool J's favorite song with Auto-Tune? "You have to ask T-Pain that question," he said. "You'll probably get a more credible answer.

9. Jimmy Jam revealed a little-known fact about Justin Bieber following the evening's Grammy nominations announcement. The teen pop sensation is amazing at "Guitar Hero." Jimmy Jam also revealed that all the original members of the Time plan release a new album in February.
grammy nominations 2010
10. Late-night TV host Craig Ferguson's highlight of 2010 would've been his Grammy nomination in the Best Spoken Word Album for "American on Purpose." But he couldn't tell the press room that. "Do you want me to say Grammy my nomination? 'Cause I can't, because my wife is pregnant." When told he was up against such greats as Carol Burnett and Woody Allen, Ferguson responded, "I'm the crappiest person on this thing."

Message from National President John Gordon to PA, SV and EB members:
Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Today we announced the results of the ratification vote for members in the PA, SV and EB Treasury Board bargaining groups. I want to thank you for your participation and your engagement in this important process.

I recognize, as does the rest of the union leadership, that this was a very difficult decision. We heard from many of you over the last several weeks who are unhappy with the agreements – particularly the provision to cash out voluntary severance and end its future accumulation.

Let me be the first to assure you that the comments and concerns you provided to us in meetings across Canada, in workplaces, at community events, by email and through social media, were heard.

I want you all to know that I take these concerns seriously and that they will not be ignored. It is important that you continue to participate and engage as we all move forward together to protect jobs and services in the face of significant challenges.

We also heard your concerns about job security and retirement benefits. We heard your concerns about the overall climate in the workplace and the rights we all strive to promote and protect. We especially heard that you want the union to defend your rights.

PSAC Public Service Alliance of Canada The We heard about how you would like your union to move forward in its fight to ensure the government respects our role and the services we provide to Canadians every day.

We must work together to hold the government to account for protecting jobs and services, and do everything possible to ensure no future erosion of our members' rights and benefits.

We must work together to send a clear message to the Harper government that public services and the workers that provide them are essential to Canada's future.

As public sector workers, you work hard and the treatment you are receiving from the Harper government is not what you deserve.

You provide essential services that protect Canadians, giving them access to crucial social benefits and improving the lives of all Canadians.

We must work together to ensure that the employment, income and retirement security of our families and communities is protected as we move forward.

Debate in our union is healthy. Your union leadership is committed to building our solidarity and capacity for action ahead of the battles to come.

PSAC Public Service Alliance of Canada The By strengthening our solidarity, I know that we can make this happen, and move our union forward – together.
